In my case it's the same damn thing coming up again and again, since I was a teenager.

interesting prompt. mine, i think, is "what does my experience reveal about others' experiences?"

I like that. It's completely infinite, and urgent. Mine is just, well, I'm going to write a lot of shitty chess engines.

But just like thoughts, do you choose this or does it just happen to you?

what is the difference between choosing something and it happening to you

Fuck if I know, but I've heard one interpretation is if you pay attention to your breath you think you're choosing/doing it, but when you lapse and forget, it's happening to you. So really it's another advaita troll, it's the same thing.

This is all kind of smashing together but this debate is happening in AI, too, and I think I agree with Cassie Kozyrkov, there's no explaining it if it just pops up.https://hackernoon.com/explainable-ai-wont-deliver-here-s-why-6738f54216be …

We're always down one level from where we want to be, we want it to be a decision tree but it's actually inherent complexity.

explainability seems achievable as long as you're happy with the explanation being just as incomprehensible as the net itself "3% of the reason for this classification was that the line recognizer was saying 'sorta' at the same time the color recognizer was saying 'greenish'"

I'm sure someone has already thought of "guessing until a decision tree gets the same result" and calling that artifact the explanation. But maybe it's the same way our inner voice rationalizes decisions that pop out.
