is there a whole list of contra-affective Aristotelian virtues somewhere like courage is right action in the presence of fear, temperance is right action in the presence of anger, tolerance is right action in the presence of disgust

This is the principle of Opposite Action in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Though their position is that sometimes fear, anger, disgust, shame, etc are not incorrect to feel. Similarly, they examine happiness, love, etc as being incorrect at times. It's very interesting.

apparently i would go further than DBT and assert that there are no incorrect emotions, only incorrect interpretations and maladaptive actions, but yeah, sounds fairly cool

They talk about the interpretations a lot too. I think you'd like it a great deal. Some variations have language I found patronizing, I'll warn. I've seen material calling itself DBT that asserts the old Western nonsense that reason is superior and should rule over emotion.

Yeah! So, I'd say just keep an eye out for it and do some mental editing. I feel pretty strongly that emotion and reason are equal. That's one of the things that dialectics means to me.

my position is more like that saying they're equal is kinda weird in the same way that saying carburetors and drive trains are equal is weird but of course it's much more weird to say that drive trains should rule over carburetors so basically yeah

I appreciate the idea here, from what I gather... unfortunately I don't know anything about Automobiles!

neither do i so it's odd to me that that's the metaphor i went for, but y'know i like to let the contributions of the various constituents of my cognitive stack stand if it doesn't seem like they'd be doing any harm
