dude accidentally worked out that your body learns what foods are high-cal by taste and goes into a calorie storage mode. upshot, you can eat high-cal foods that don't taste like the high calorie foods you're used to for a while, and lose weight, til your body learns thempic.twitter.com/pil5rLCFPy

so the big objecc here is that 'calorie storage mode' isn't, like, a thing

kinda think it is tbh like, ask the bulimics how well the trick of chewing yummy food and spitting it out works. it basically fucks them up hardcore because the taste signals start up the digestive process and then there's nothing to digest

I am only an idiot on the internet, so it is possibly my mental failing that makes it appear that "starting the digestive process with nothing to digest" and "metabolic calorie hoarding mode" are distinct and unrelated things. And yet.

now imagine that instead of starting the exact same digestive process every time, your body were able to start digestive processes tuned for different foods, keyed to their taste in what sense would a digestive process tuned for sugar not be a "calorie storage mode"

absent more details, i should rather think 'all of the senses'.

my point, to the extent that it is possible to have points at all, is that there is perhaps somewhat of an epistemic gap between 'there exists a digestive optimization for sugar' and 'that optimization is, specifically, hoarding calories in metabolic storage'

there very well may be a reasonable person may conclude, in the matter of epistemic gaps, upon a review of the contextually available evidence, that that's why God made inference
