did Chesterton ever stop to think that he shouldn't stop people from tearing down fences that they can't explain the reasons for having unless he can explain why it is they do that
can one not? i can certainly build many kinds of systems without considering myself a component of them

I suppose, but it would have to remain occult knowledge. Most people want a system that is coherent; the thought that the head of a system is contradictory would cause it to fail, although in the end all the strongest and most appealing systems do have this as a hidden secret.

Frankly, any notion of authority depends on this contradiction. By definition, an authority figure has to reject the notion of being ordered about. When that is not the case, you end-up with the complete failure of the system, such as in the early 20th century.
