my depression generally lacks that kind of self-hate/judgement but at this point i'm becoming slightly suspicious that this aspect of it is not actually a good thing
-
that is: is the lack of self-judgement a sign of a better prognosis, in some fashion, or is it a sign of a lack of self to judge, or a lack of the tools necessary to judge oneself?

Absolutely not, being depressed is the most unvirtuous thing ever because I have to be out there creating value and meaning and supporting people and instead I am an unmoving bed object wet with tears
-
sometimes the way you create value and meaning and support people (you are a people!) is to be an unmoving bed object wet with tears tho

Well, when I was depressed it was "I want to die but I want to take at least a hundred of [particular politician type and their functionary type] with me"

If the depression is telling you that stuff, it might be exactly the sticking point eg. trauma might be related to bothering people, or to sense of self-worth etc.
