Anyway, short version is C-PTSD is when the traumatic events happen repeatedly over a period of time. Looks a lot like Borderline Personality Disorder and there’s tons of overlap between them in terms of symptoms, treatments, and other stuff.

BPD got a rep for being untreatable bc talk therapy doesn’t help it and docs frequently retraumatized the patients, often by violating professional boundaries. Enter Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Designed by a doc with BPD, it’s pure skills training and much is cheap online.

DBT is basically just a class. You can learn the skills from it online if you’re broke. I love talk therapy but tons of people need skills training instead. If you have problems such as feeling like you don’t have an identity and becoming easily overwhelmed by your emotions, DBT.

EMDR is something I don’t know as much about, but from what I understand it’s basically a form of magic that helps heal long-standing psychological trauma but it’s not called magic and it’s scientifically shown to be effective so your insurance (if you have it) will pay for it.

be careful of using the word magic around therapy. lots of people use the word way to casually and it's hip these days and magic as a commodity is already too over-commercialized.

FWIW I would agree with most of this thread. Except to say that both EMDR and DBT are types of talk therapy w/ added ingredients. The relationship part is still of primary importance. Necessary but not sufficient is still necessary.

what i mean by that is that it's clearly acting on deep structures of human mental architecture at a level nobody will be able to explain at a rigorous epistemic level for at least a century at the inside
