being anything means not being what some people like how would you know if you were trying to be nothing? what would that look like?

It depends on if you mean attempting specifically to be nothing, or simply not trying to be anything in particular. In both cases, you'll still be something, but the former will be a distorted parody of an asymptote and the latter will be whatever comes naturally and unexaminedly
