i like how if you just shitpost relentlessly occasionally you come up with a new view of human cultural history that's completely plausible and upends half of all assumptions ever made about anythinghttps://twitter.com/chaosprime/status/1197018797091250176 …

if emotions aren't magic that comes from our souls or some irreplicable part of our lizard brains, then they're how we experience some element of our cognition, yeah? some shape of nervous, endocrine, kinesiological, etc activity

if so then it isn't even slightly unreasonable that perturbing the system this way and that could bring you to shapes of activity that are *qualitatively* different from anything you came specifically wired for or ever had modeled for you

and if you can then create some information package that reproduces or allows to be reproduced an analogous perturbation, you can memetically infect whoever else the package works for with the *new fucking emotion you have made*

is it the case that everybody who's ever been regarded as a great artist succeeded at this and everybody who's ever been regarded as a useless hack was trying to emulate it by fucking around with the same end media the great artists wound up using, cargo cult style? MAYBE

one thing that you would get here is that artist A designs an info package that only works for a few people. some of those say, holy shit, the world needs to know, and design their own info packages. if this cascades enough the emotion becomes part of the culture's tech base

and cultural aliens immersed in the culture experience wide-ranging cognitive shock not least because everyone around them is *feeling things they don't know how to feel*

lololol a reason this has been a stealth operation the whole time is that humans are notoriously bad at projecting self-concept across emotional states so when you learn a new affective modality you *stop remembering what it was like not to know it*
