I had a philosophy professor who was okay with infanticide. She had a point that utilitarianism wasn't for making people feel good about the rules qua the rules, but for maximizing the good of rules' outcomes.

enh, does it really, though. at the end of the day it comes down to ignoring enough factors that you can pretend you're acting based on what the results will be in a comprehensible way like sensitive dependence on initial conditions is something that happens to other people
