Personally, I think the main problem is the necessity of resolving cognitive dissonance for the sake of surviving emotionally in a society that forces us to do things that hurt others, and the planet every day, just by existing in it.

Ftr, I’ve been thinking this long before the good place - my first winter living in a city again after spending 8 months mostly in the woods was super-depressing. I couldn’t figure out how to live where my friends are w/out compromising my morals all day long.

i handle this by concluding that anything that tells me i should feel worse about producing garbage than a lion feels about producing a gazelle carcass is an op, but probably other ops are keeping you from feeling good about that intervention
