people writing about consciousness be like, "first i will redefine the term 'consciousness' as something i can make empirical statements about, then see how just how long i can talk before people notice i'm not talking about what they came here to find out about"

I'm pretty sure it's the correct approach and also pretty sure my view of "consciousness" as really lame IPC bus, maybe grimly merged at the hip with some kind of scheduler, will be vindicated

it's the correct approach for some purposes that's perfectly likely to be what it does that's important, for sure, the interesting part would just be how it is that one of those has a point of view and experiences qualia

Remember I told you about crazy ass software that used dmesg as IPC bus ? The "qualia" would be basically specifically patterned messages vomited into a common - and poorly fit - comms environment

Well, I was preempting the why, the how being basically that "it's what being that poor dmesg ring buffer, but made out of neuron stuff" IS.

that has zero explanatory power for the existence of points of view which experience qualia

I'm more worried about predictive power never getting out of the gutter.

fair i'm just saying that induction can generate a truly impressive number of purposes that apples being red can serve and none of them tell you that apples being red is created by anthocyanins
