Was worth a try ;) I'm at a loss with all these discussions about autism. Neurodiversity vs proper autism etc.

No specific problem. Just trying to follow what's going on and having a hard time doing so. Can you tell me what you mean by internet and real life autism?

"real", not "real life". by internet autism i mean Asperger's syndrome, though of course we somehow can't say that any more since the DSM is the boss of us. by real autism i mean the kind where you're disabled enough that you're not going to stay alive without accommodations

There's definitely a huge difference between those two but calling one of those internet autism suggests that Asperger's or PDD-NOS isn't real. I don't get why you'd want to say that?

that's why my schema isn't nice i would generally not want to say that, which is why you won't see me mentioning it much, but when i do i would do it in order to draw a clear distinction that's reflective of how people actually think about the matter, unkind as it may be

Don't worry about nice, worry about true. I don't know who people refers to. Do you think Asperger/PDD-NOS is real and/or autism? I still don't follow

it doesn't refer to anyone; it refers to a model of social cognition that you may not have. if you read about reputation you'll run into mention of a sort of "what we think other people think" phenomenon crucial to it; this lives where that lives yes; maybe

to expand, Asperger's/PDD-NOS is an actual thing that's etiologically related to what was historically called "autism", at a lower level of severity. whether that means it *is* autism is a question that's more about insurance coverage than anything else
