I mean there are *parts* of Montreal where this is true! and strata. and mixed degrees to which it is and isn't. which is probably how it works in "New York" too

hm we might have pretty different thresholds for considering something normalized around here in any sort of ~good society~ the apparatus ready to spring into action if you were to try to treat most of these things as abnormal is formidable and itching to be let loose

OK. see. you should have said "good society" in your tweet, first of all. then explained a) why that matters b) what that is

this is a style of social justice contrarianism that is probably more class-gated than social justice itself

could be i spose. maybe there's a hotbed of reactionary sentiment lurking in NYC metro where it isn't visible from my class position. i am dubious

there's so many parts of Montreal I know next to nothing about! I met someone a couple weeks ago who was explaining all these ethnic dynamics I'd never heard about, and that it's a city where "the kind of white you are matters" which besides French/English I'd never picked up

& I'm Online, so I hear completely conflicting things from people who live in cities about the cities they live in all the time tbf I'll admit it is quite likely NY goes beyond "liberal cities" here tho; I've never heard of anything like in that one schools article, for instance
