...don't tell me any of you seriously think that post was written by a student.
The only way that strawman could be more obvious is if it were in a cornfield.
everything is an op, obviously, but i dunno if that one is exactly the op it looks like. the close is the wrong direction, politically
TBH this is not exactly unexpected writing from traumatized teenagers currently in English classes.
The first tipoff to me was how openly the writer spoke about crying. IME adolescents tend to have a desire to prove themselves as being adults and would not admit such. Then it went on to describe everyone crying, all the time, and claiming adults were taking melodramatic action.
Staplers under every desk? Really? What school has the budget for that? "a full day of teachers crying and telling us that they love us all so much and will die for us" - maybe this is all the writer's fantasy where people care.
idk, my main prior that OP confirms is that my priors about what school is like are trash. everything i've seen about what school is like in the Age of Active Shooter Drills has driven home that Things Have Changed, and it's been in the direction of that piece ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, this is hardly the only account (and many I have seen are from parents who I know personality and aren't sharing their experiences for Political Points but because it's their lives and their kids' lives and they're scared, everyone is scared) of this being the new normal.
