If an advanced society used custom DNA to create a new species that was capable of breeding and a pregnant host member of the species had an abortion could True Resurrection work on the fetus? Follow up, same, but egg laying and an omelette was made?

1) if a) the new species is ensouled, b) the fetus has quickened, c) the souls of aborted fetuses do not go to any sort of locked purgatory-type plane, and d) the soul of the fetus is willing to come back, then yes

2) similarly, but typical D&D ontology of objects tends to indicate that the omelette being made means the original body no longer exists (especially if it was eaten), so you'd need to speak the fetus's name so it can get a new body, which may be impossible if it wasn't named

I think I would have to allow for shell fragment use. And I might be inclined to allow a post meal naming if someone made a very strong case.

shell fragments are very dicey, the egg seems more like a separate support system from the creature than part of its body; i don't think i'd allow it, or casting via touching a placenta either. post meal naming i could see as long as it follows some established naming ritual

What are the chances the shell doesn't have some bit of egg material on it though? I'd hate to get bogged down in anything that detailed in the middle of a session. TR can work off any unambiguous identification from my most recent reading.

the egg matter wouldn't work in my reading either, just the actual fetal tissue "any unambiguous identification" is sensible but definitely not RAW, dunno if that's what you're going for at all

That's a good point, I didn't think about the egg/quickened connection. Really can't TR an omelette under those terms I'd think.

yeah, pretty sure eggboi is a loss, hope your culture's christening rite doesn't rely on interaction with the physical body

In my case a strict reading would be 'The Empire shall issue you a serial number when originally entered into the MedComps' became a bit fuzzy when the Emperor became an actual God and Dragons suddenly eliminated most computers. Ends up being more of a 'The Emperor knows' sit.
