imagine a culture based around two activities: 1) selling people ways to feel important, and 2) telling people that they're unimportant and, any time they're caught trying to feel important, that trying to feel important is ridiculous and shameful

hm i suspect maintaining this collective delusion and preventing the spread of common knowledge about the true nature of the goods would involve highly oppressive state control over public self expression
