But where do think the ego went? And, if it just disappears into blackness, doesn't it grow back every time you awake?

it didn't go anywhere, it's a bunch of neural patterns. you just weren't running inside it for a second. to kill it, it has to crash because the things it operates through connection to aren't available or aren't responding in the fashion needed

So, there's this thing that has to be killed, but it's just a pattern and appears and disapppears all the time anyway, and is never the same from one minute to the next. See why this ego death seems confusing? I don't understand what actually dies.

it doesn't appear and disappear all the time, and to the extent that it's different from one minute to the next the incremental differences are trivial think of something you do that's important to you. that's part of your ego. the significance it has to you is what would die

I don't think you can have it both ways. Either your ego disappears in deep sleep or it doesn't. And, if it does, then you have to admit that your ego disappears and reforms all the time. Hell, mine disappears watching a good movie.

And in dhyana or samadhi, that sense of self goes poof while conscious.

the ego disappearing in deep sleep is your deal, not mine. i don't think it "disappeared" any more than it did while you were watching a movie, any more than Chrome uninstalls itself from your computer when you're not running it

Are you seriously claiming that you are self-conscious in deep sleep, while I am not?

you're going keep aggressively not getting the difference between inactive and nonexistent no matter how many times i restate it, aren't you

Correct, because it's not a meaningful difference. You are claiming the ego still exists during deep sleep, insisting on it in fact, but have offered no evidence to support that claim. Instead, you're insinuating that I am just being difficult.
