i appreciate the people trying to make the phrase "meditation practice" a thing idea being, it's not that sitting and returning your attention to your breath every time it gets dragged away is meditation

Well, I heard people say this is true. The aim of meditation is to enhance your mind's faculties. Attention is just the very first step, and only after you stop being distracted you can actually begin the real work. Can't confirm though, I never once stopped being distracted.
