"toxic masculinity" is more effective combat epistemology than "sexism" because it relocates the problematization from the system to the individual. look for "racism" to be rebranded "toxic caucasity" soon, where by soon i mean more than a year ago

it always seems to be taken as a given, though, that wherever it came from, it is both necessary and sufficient to address it by punishing its carriers with exclusion and ridicule. maybe that's what i'm responding to

There’s a bit of a shell game at work where the term is used for various things as needed. I mostly take it as epithet decay: sexism->misogyny->toxic masculinity, where as each term becomes over-exposed a new more potent one takes its place, heaping greater scorn on the target.

There's an iron law of language that we need to constantly reinvent terms to keep the concepts fresh. Cf. the people who proudly proclaim themselves "assholes".
