People who wring their hands about whether or not they can strictly reason their way to something being right or wrong tend to have the weakest moral judgment. You would think the parable of Solomon and the two mothers would have sunk in by now

That’s sad. Part of the goal of moral modularity is letting people share rational developments even if they have moral disagreements. But the dark opposite of this is that you can no longer claim rational disagreement when you have a moral disagreement.

this is why i want to see a Xavier/Magneto scene where they show up someplace, perform an absolutely magisterial discourse clarifying each other's reasoning, reach the conclusion that their differences are axiomatic, say "sorry man", and full-tilt go for each other's throats
