really cool how nociceptors just shut off after a certain threshold of noxious stimuli

DEFINITELY the second in my experience. I've only ever had pain be dulled by dissociating and about halfway to losing consciousness (you're never as close to passing out as you desperately want to be...)

hmm. I suppose it might depend on the type of pain, nociceptor trigger and perhaps nerve fiber? I've had experiences where cutaneous nociceptors seemed to be so overwhelmed by sensation, it's almost like they shut off

Hmm. Do you have an example? I've had pain delayed for a second or two - I think from a high-temperature burn? But I can't immediately remember what you're talking about (aside from nerve damage, but that's permanent and I think you're talking temporary).

hmm... perhaps it could be nerve damage or maybe adrenaline?
