if kids at school spontaneously self-organized to torture you because of how you think, at some point somebody probably told you "oh, they're just afraid of people who are different" yes, and they are that way without any knowledge of why, but that doesn't make it unmotivated

they were afraid of you because, at the skinny end of the risk distribution, the way you think represents a potentially unbounded existential threat to the social group and the important thing is to make good on that

more like, people who [are unusual] are just good targets because they literally stand out of the generic background of "people I kind of peck money from when I need money and need to show how dangerousbad I am", and that makes organizing a campaign of abuse for fun easier
