compute substrate, not computer; a physical medium that performs computation. the quickest shorthand example for the kind of substrate most relevant here is "a brain", though that also encodes error; human computation is concentrated in the brain but not exclusive to it

but don't overlook how there's computation taking place throughout the human body, not just the peripheral nervous system (those retinas!), but in particular the endocrine system, which is a kinda dire thing to have hijacked to perform the spiritual equivalent of bitcoin mining
