C: “There are a lot of circumstances where not being misogynist is transphobic.” A: “Yeah, but don’t say that on Twitter.” B: “No, say it on Twitter.”

I still don't get it. How's it transphobic to not hold the door open for a woman? Also this is such a peeve for me when people purposefully pretend not to know when it's an asshole move to hold a door and when it's a human decency move to hold a door.

the idea is that if you'd hold the door open for a cis woman, then not holding the door open for a trans woman is transphobic. coupled with the idea that holding the door for any woman is misogynist, which is more of a Discourse PTSD symptom than anything

My take is that there's the holding the door open a little longer so it doesn't slam in their face, which I do for anyone. Then there's the full on get behind the door and let them pass through which I do for old people or people carrying stuff, but not women generally.

IMO if there's no reason they would have a hard time taking over the door holding, l the latter action is more of a spectical than helpful gesture. Therfore I avoid it.
