the people who are mad at the idea of a Mermaid of Color are definitely real and bad and not a stunningly cynical op that will succeed wildly at making liberals associate an upcoming Disney release with feeling lavishly proud of themselves and protective of the media property

none of this is designed, it's a self-organizing local energy minimum that _looks_ incredibly unlikely because we're not used to people spending Dunbar slots across the internet instead of across the street

Chaos Retweeted all the work while crying
Chaos added,
all the work while crying @Pasha_Spidercc@Aelkus "racist Little Mermaid remake reaction" viral blowup on twitter tonight, a classic cheapfake operation: account < 1yr old establishes itself, looks harmless, builds engagements w/ pop music + anti-Trump RTs, then explodes by going @#%! racist: https://twitter.com/Pasha_Spider/status/1146603903099838465 … pic.twitter.com/MXqaU2NKzE3 replies 1 retweet 5 likes -

I mean, I'm not surprised that grifters are jumping on the opportunity but I work with marketers, and they're the sort of people who send ops an email at the last minute: "hey, can you buy these domains and set up a campaign we're running this weekend?" maybe Disney's better

I feel like a handful of opportunists stoking the het up racists for their own grift aint nowhere near what it takes to dismiss the whole thing as an op, especially given the abundant cultural context of organic displays of exactly this.

But, y'know, cynicism poisoning is an occupational hazard of Online, so this sort of weary "oh nobody is like this irl, it's all manipulations all the way down" learned-helplessness thing is unsurprising.

an op finding useful idiot recruits doesn't make it not an op

I'm just amazed that we're away the point that a single op can benefit every species of grift. Even the revelation that it's an op is valuable across the board. It's practically fractal
