Hey internet brain: My girlfriend and I are looking for a mobile game we can play together long-distance (she’s in Texas, I’m in NYC). I don’t really like competitive stuff so I’d rather something co-op like Stardew Valley or Overcooked but on iOS. Suggestions?

you can join me and
@jenphalian and@StevenBrust and@rainherself and@Slipjig3's Forge of Empires guild: https://us.forgeofempires.com/?invitation=16254809-us15-l&ref=player_invite_link … (referral link will put you on the same server as us and friend you to me), it's very good for exactly this scenario1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

The game looks suspiciously monetized by impatience

oh yeah that is exactly the variety of game it is, the one that does you the kind service of teaching you serene patience by viciously financially exploiting any lack of it

I’d rather pay for a game up front so I can enjoy the fullness of what it offers me. I can drop $5 on a game to not need microtransactions. I’ve dropped $15 on a Square Enix iOS port before.

*nodnod* this is a valid life choice and i support it, i just find that FoE's collaborative maintenance and development mechanics provide a good structure for keeping a baseline level of low-touch contact going in a long-distance relationship

Part of the issue is we both want something more high-touch. The issue with Pokémon Go was that it was far too low-touch long distance.

ahh gotcha. yeah, ideally you'd want something that supports baseline low-touch and episodic high-touch, and FoE doesn't have a lot going for the latter. some situations call for closer interaction but there isn't a lot of game framework for it

this might be the motivation of a new guild-vs-guild competition system they were talking about a month or so ago

so far, then, my FoE killer should have routine helping-tend-each-other's-gardens activity (on a 23.5 hour cycle or something instead of 24 hours with clock drag so you can't actually have a daily routine, wtf guys) and short direct interaction collab gameplay episodes

If the collab is not exckusively combat, that would be even better
