pouring one out for all the affordances we used to have in our environments that facilitated our well-being in some significant way but then some modern architect or city planner or social crusader decided that if all they had to justify them was folk practice then out they go

In user interface design, affordance means something like conforming to users' expectations about how to operate your software, based on their experiences with similar software

yeah, it mutated from everything provided by an environment in Gibson to things understood as provided by the environment in Norman to things that *cause* things to be understood as provided by the environment in UI/UX folklore
