if you are a product manager for a web project and you specify that it should override the browser Find functionality and replace it with your own search implementation, you are an absolutely megascale dipshit and i want to put my fist all the way through your fucking skull

from what i've seen it's usually a side effect of lazy loading, not a feature in its own right. not that that, um, helps. chrome can also open the native find box if you first focus the address bar.

i can't find the site i was on now, which doesn't displease me, but it was something in the gradle ecosystem i think. cmd-F was intercepted and opened a sidebar in the web page that did an internal site search and of course there's fucking Confluence in edit mode

credit where due, Confluence at least still lets you do the same thing more clunkily, rather than replacing it with completely different functionality
