gosh i wonder how many of the tens of thousands of people boosting this thread will stop and say "hmm maybe no" the next time policy is being made based on a wokeness performance cascade arising from media amplification of narcissistic bullshithttps://twitter.com/EhlersDanlosgrl/status/1139214876553834496 …

I was declined a straw at a restaurant this morning. The waitress had one in her apron. As she poured the water I said “excuse me miss can I have a straw?” She said “we can’t just give them out” and walked away.

went to get some bubble tea with my (ex-)gf at a Townshend's Tea here in Portland and they provided us with stainless steel straws gf: "I know plastics are bad but this reusable straw grosses me out" me: "well, maybe they boil them" . . . . gf: "... maybe they don't"

Having not seen one yet, I am curious. How would you rate them for stabbing? Obviously the wound channel would fairly optimal for bleeding but how sturdy would you say they were?

I might have insight into this by virtue of welding bicycles (made from steel tubing like the straws) and sharpening (woodworking tools) might be able to penetrate flesh based just on thinness of the tube's walls probably would survive direct impact but bend if a glancing blow

I'm patiently waiting for the first Straw Kill in a film. Obviously expecting it to be JW4 at this point but the race to be first to market fighting with the concern of being seen as callous to the issue at hand should interesting.

I think we're going to see at least one AcidShake&Stab event and it will probably be from the sort of fringe community that becomes upset and reality existing only to prevent them from experiencing joy. If I had to guess that would be November 5th right after the movie and Brexit

let me know if you have any more questions about improvised weapons. I don't know much about actual effective violence but I am a layperson's materials science expert and I have made my own tools for stabbing wood

I'll point out that the #1 issue with using a straw as a weapon would be that you're also subject to the stabbing pressure on your end so you need to either be ready for a sanguine-pyrrhic victory or do a little preparation (wrap your end of the straw in leather etc)

I admit to being willing to train grip strength and explore this against a wooden man for fun. I think it would be an amusing exercise though prone to failure. It also seems you could use a small plate palmed in the off hand as a mallet.
