All of those scenes in books and movies and stories where the previously invincible villain suddenly discovers they are overmatched by the hero and challenges them not to use their newfound strength as a matter of honor are basically about this.

Of course, this also works on villains, and is so common in that direction (and so stupid) that it is actively listed on the Evil Overlord list.

There is a scene of this nature in the Captain Marvel movie, and while most people cheered because the hero has a hero moment, I cheered because the hero for once did not do something so incredibly stupid.
