The real secret message of westerner capeshit :) is that "supers" (mutants and other assorted superpowered superheroes) are actually an allegory for gun owners. Someone should write this hot take into a superhot RPRable paper
As a kid i took the allegory of mutants as 2nd class citizen/persecuted minority at face value. As an adult who sees gov for what it is, a monopoly on violence you cant have powered beings running around unchecked it is a free roaming internal threat.
Hell telepathic mutants make this problem even worse, whats the point of espionage or intelligence when someone can read minds or outright controll them. States would gladly fund a giant robot hunting program to stop that.
TBH the government would BE the mutants in a few days, realistically. Average band of X-men villains specifically is a state-level threat
It would be an omnipresent theat from all levels. It gets somewhat downplayed but Scott Sunmers/Cyclops got into Xaviers school after after a mishap with his powers where he blasted someone in class. That would be seen as a school bomb attack & he would be a fugitive.
There wouldn't be time to analyze the event & explain that he just needs to keep his ruby quartz glasses on to prevent mishaps, it would be seen as "School explosion rumored to be caused by mutant".
well, yeah. Lesser types of mutants are basically gun owners born with a gun. People like Cyclops are more like howitzer owners. IIRC there was a story about a guy who set everyone on fire pretty much on sight
This whole thing makes me want to buy a Mutant of War.
