Maybe naturalistic assertion (being an ethical red herring anyway) is a kind of sleight of hand you do when proper ass violence becomes very expensive.

so it's kind of indicative of an artificial construct maintained by people willing to do violence to prop it up, but also indicative of lack of readiness to actually open a can of whoop ass.
