Crowley's "the method of science, the aim of religion" was a nice idea but doomed when the effort to define and standardize an element of basic tooling equivalent to, say, a thermometer takes longer than the cultural context that makes it standardizable survives

Are you suggesting that this is the reason why so few people approach AC seriously these days? Although I mean it’s not as if he ever imagined himself the sort to attract huge crowds.

Just the other day I was looking for recommendations on *new* chaos magic books for this reason + getting nowhere >.< I do think Crowley's approach is a useful set of data, example of a full system so you can grow your own from current surroundings

I just reread bluefluke about once a year and that seems to do the trick for me. the more interesting part is finding things that have nothing to do with chaos magic and twisting them to your ends anyway.
