organized crime will always fail when it does not understand itself to be a nascent governmental structure challenging the established one for the violence monopoly, which can lead to thinking that the two can coexist from this we see what we call successful organized crime

I actually think it’s an interesting area to explore because of the topology of organized crime. Your initial point makes sense w/ re: narco groups…& that might relate more to the actual *land* they need to occupy for production

Not sure co-option is the right word in historically talking about the yakuza & it’s role in Japanese society, although the case could be made it’s *moved in that direction* recently as the JP gov had cracked down. This is actually quite interesting now that I’m thinking about it
