in NSA hookup culture, the annoyance of somebody "catching feelings" isn't the feelings, it's that their existence means that this person is now going to try to control you. this follows so reliably that the one is shorthand for the other

imagine living in a society where your feelings were your own responsibility, not a passive-aggressive stake-claim on another person's life

(these are all subtweets directed at society) (why is codependence glorified as virtue until it's not) (is everything social really a shadow system of coercion & ownership based on mutual insecurity?????) (etc)

i would contend that it's possible to know it and be interested in working with it while having issues with conventional approaches to doing so

*nodnod* that's really the thrust of my critique, that "don't try to control me" would be a less harmful and deranged boundary than "no feelings"

super interesting that saying "don't try to control me" is so much more transgressive than saying "no feelings"

that's the thing i'm talking about too. like...it's possible to have deep, strong feelings for someone and not want to control them?????? i'm lucky to have found some people who respect boundaries but i see it's still a struggle for them. i..can't understand it
