in NSA hookup culture, the annoyance of somebody "catching feelings" isn't the feelings, it's that their existence means that this person is now going to try to control you. this follows so reliably that the one is shorthand for the other

Ohh yeah I missed that nuance. I think I'd prefer a still-less deranged "I am willing to do these things but not these other things and you need to respect that" if only cause "control" is a super vague concept
