it's funny that the "positive" and "negative" in positive and negative reinforcement are in the cybernetics sense (whether something is being added or removed) and you can't even find somebody *with a degree in psychology* who isn't reflexively reading them as "nice" and "mean"

negative reinforcement is also taking away. there are a lot more kinds of positive punishment than beating ass. the description has to actually specify the thing to qualify i'm gonna say
