Can you name a cultural phenomenon that meets all these hurdles and thus is ok for one to be concerned about?

I am broadly pessimistic about 1) in the general sense (as in, I am not convinced even a honest to cog ban on a set of symbols or even whole texts could produce a measurable setback to movements currently using them, at least in modern settings)

yes banning symbols doesn't work, what works is contextualizing their use by people with their other behavior (that's literally how humans communicate anything so good luck trying to stop doing it), and deciding which people to ban accordingly

oh no what if we accuse the fav politician of the fascists, of fascism ppl will think we're crazy (fr this is a terrible example, politicians *should* be under scrutiny that borders on paranoia)

if you don't see how it's helpful to make your perfectly accurate accusation of fascism not sound like an accusation of witchcraft, idk what to tell ya mang

So wait, is it inaccurate or merely something that regardless of accuracy should not be said because it'll sound silly?

it's actually a cleverer trap than it gets credit for because it's a case of accidental truth; knowledge which is accurate but not via the reasoning which is being used to justify it. so people's bullshit detectors go off on "Trump is a fascist because he used the okay sign"

and in some proportion of cases this gives them an association that "Trump is a fascist" is bullshit man, that's slick, i hadn't really worked it out all the way

i don't think anyone said trump was a fascist because of the sign, the correct interpretation of the sign being used by him as a fascist symbol would be that he is a fascist and *signalling that fact to other fascists* (which is anything but trivial)
