This is what happens to symbols though which is maybe unfortunate for those who flashed roman salutes on 1920s twitter before their meaning became unambiguous but there's fuck all that can be done about that without sacrificing our discerning capacities altogether

well, this and attempts to inflict career damage and such, attempt to turn "I no longer talk to Bob or read Bob's blawg" to some kind of old-sense ostracism. (One of the reasons I love capitalism is because it tends to erode such protocols)

same question arises again, what line divides things that make career damage deserved, from those that make it undeserved (and again, there is no one such line, just everybody drawing lines and talking about it) also i don't think capitalism can stop people from doing that at all

tbh i'm only even trying to discuss consequences for affiliative symbolcrimes that only affect actual people for highly tenuous values of "affect", if somebody murdered your goldfish just take a baseball bat to their head
