I'd like cancellation to become broadly unsustainable practice because this type of practices pattern-match to societies I resent and consider only to a tiny degree more palatable than what the whitesoups want

This. I prefer to assume individuals I wish to associate with all hold individual and complex beliefs, and that no belief makes them irredeemably evil and unable to be swayed to a more reasonable point of view. Cancellation as a concept needs to go.

What does cancellation mean to you aside from not associating with a person?

Mostly "not associating" and also "foisting social pressure on your peers to also not associate" I guess my biggest issue with cancelling is the whole "policing who other people pal around with" aspect. Every individual has the right to engage or disengage with whoever they want.

and the rest of individuals has the right to disassociate accordingly including in a coordinated manner

The "coordinated manner" is where I get hung up on. That's the intellectually lazy bit. I want that shit to stop. That's how Gunn got trashed, because nobody bothered to actually look into it, and if you disagreed with the cancellation, "UR DEFENDING A PEDO".

so we can act as individuals, but we cannot talk about it ever because that may lead to collective action which is evil, sure, that's a perfectly realistic thing to want people to do lol

You can talk about it all day, dude. But linking an innocuous symbol used properly in 99.9% of cases to evil, and then deliberately spreading that throughout your peer group is a dumb plan that harms whitesoups 0% and innocent people >0%.

it isn't "talking about it", though, is it it's the apex cool kid manufacturing a consensus and failure to act in accordance with the manufactured consensus means you get the same treatment as the offender

This is essentially a conspiracy theory: the symbol-meaning mapping started as an actual alt right propaganda campaign, not some hallucination among the reporter class.

sorry, i was unclear, i was talking about the process of cancellation, not the "let's make the okay sign racist" op
