maybe the right strat there is to lean in, train yourself to get dopamine hits off successfully socialing and exploit on-demand extroversion

sounds like you'll wind up wasting a lot of time with people you don't want to spend time with

seems like a waste, why not use your new skills to better enjoy spending time with people you like?

i don't think that addresses the original question, though, but of course i could have misread. i read the original question as, 'i now have more skill at handling social situations, to the point where now i get entangled in social situations i want to extricate myself from.'

that's a fair reading, not quite where I went with it but I see where you're headed I think extra levels in social skill also make it easier to get out of shitty social webs, though, especially vs being awkward and self-conscious about it

hasn't been true for me! i can think of many situations wherein people seem to LOVE me, whereas i've been desperate to the point of gnawing my own arm off a la coyote ugly to gtfo but work or other circumstances makes it awkward to extricate myself

that's super frustrating. I feel like smoothly disengaging from people who want to glom onto you like lampreys is a pretty advanced skill shot in the dark: Hey

i would circle all the way back to the start and question the assumption that the solution to this problem is "signal i'm not a normie". define the problem more precisely and you will probably find a simpler solution

self-extrication is usually a matter of being firm, assertive but without being caustic or aggressive. like, stand up, bring your hands together, "alright guys, this has been loads of fun and I wish I could be here all day, but I'm going to be late for my next commitment"
