smalltalk and squeak always seemed really interesting. the idea that you could pick any part of the system and see and edit its source code live is really cool

te-he-HECnically you're supposed to delete the prototype then build the product the way you learned that you needed to by doing it wrong in the prototype but shipping "lightweight software" sounds good too
