if I had to guess, increased attention from folks who hate him (and generally increased attention in the form of repeated mentions in e.g. the NYT), the fact that his anonymity is paper-thin, and the fact that he has a job/professional reputation to lose now

yes, and that is what the Kolmorogov Complicity post was about. He seems to have (or at least believes) a very fragile and vulnerable position though if this is how he is behaving. When did he move to San Francisco?

Yep. I’ve lost many friends over reading Those People, but was lucky enough for those friends not to have any real power over me, despite their threats. If they had been bosses, or coworkers in a monocultural profession where reputation matters a lot? I’d be cautious as well.
