...it doesn't? did you learn it more from the mathematical side of things or the programming side of things? for me, the change of a stack frame was a change of scale, which is admittedly an abstraction, but not one without basis

definitely more programming i think i see what you mean though, if you think of recursion as successively breaking down a problem there's a scale-like metric there
