saw "power animal" recommended in a "dont say spirit animal" thread which seems good because im 100% over people acting like the concept of a patronus, familiar, or fursona is remotely the same thing

I am... intrigued. I know what a fursona is and vaguely what a familiar is but what’s wrong with spirit animal? Is it because it’s a Native thing?

is it though? has anyone in these discussions made a reference to any real concept in any indigenous language? or are they just blindly attributing animism to "natives"?

ok I've now done that. Still curious thought, in your experience are the people having these debate interested in cross cultural education or just about making sure they using the proper words?

my favorite was the thousands-of-RTs-and-favs tweet that wasn't "white people shouldn't say spirit animal", it was "white people don't have spirit animals" because if there's anything figures of animistic wisdom are famous for, it's dyed in the wool racism
