I didn't say the guy in the hat deserved anything. I said wearing the hat is a deliberate racist provocation. Wearing a swastika is different than wearing any sort of clothing. The hat is a political statement and a threat. Pretty sure you're aware of that.https://twitter.com/James_Hiler/status/1088289789756010497 …
good! i believe you're correct. i would've called it an affiliative symbol. so you're doing better than noah at keeping your ability to successfully empathize alive, congrats

I don't think the kids should get death threats; I don't take any pleasure in them suffering. They've affiliated w a symbol that is designed to associate them with a racist fascist and his program of hate and division. It is used in hate crimes. It is used by white nationalists.

It is understood by those who see it as a symbol of hate; it's used by people who wear it to spread hate and to terrorize.

A high level of comfort with racism is still a really bad thing (I would say it’s racist in itself). And that’s the most positive spin I can put on it. I just don’t see the importance of this distinction between conscious malice and blasé unreflective malice to fit in.

shrug, ask noah, he's the one who made the conscious malice into a point
