I didn't say the guy in the hat deserved anything. I said wearing the hat is a deliberate racist provocation. Wearing a swastika is different than wearing any sort of clothing. The hat is a political statement and a threat. Pretty sure you're aware of that.https://twitter.com/James_Hiler/status/1088289789756010497 …

I could ask the same of you, I"m sure. Do you yell at people who make the same point about the Confederate flag, or what? Did you read the article? The hat is worn to commit racist violence by literal Nazis.

I see you've whipped yourself into a frenzy in defense of these kids wearing MAGA hats? not sure what the deal is with that, but people wearing MAGA hats are doing so as a racist provocation. That's the intent, that's how it's received.

Why do the theoretical provocateurs get to decide what is or isn’t a racist provocation? Surely what matters is whether it’s received as one by the provoked. Given the amount of racist bile Trump’s spewed, at best the MAGA hat conveys an indifference to/comfort with racism.

This is a fully general argument that could be applied to any symbol.

1: when was it not? Even the deflections have been "the black jews made us do it!". 2: MAGA hats are pretty well understood worldwide at this point. If you somehow don't know that it means that then I would like to borrow your time machine.

please take a moment to consider how affiliative symbols mean different things to the people of the affiliation than they mean to people who virulently loathe and revile the affiliation, kthx

He knows at least a bare minimum about semiotics? The hat is absolutely a racist provocation.
