A thought just occurred to me that basically ruined the star wars original trilogy for me

They acted like they were shocked when the deathstar was the "size of a moon" but they'd already had orbital shipyards to mass manufacture star destroyer ships and their navies for thousands and thousands of years. Something like the death star shouldnt be a shock.

Are the shipyards *that* big though? And there’d be a significant engineering and resource difference between a large, flatish, distributes shipyard and a moon size and shaped ship
