I've never watched an episode of Infowars in my life and I don't plan to start now. I still have an enormous amount of difficulty understanding why someone would stop using a service because it optionally carries something they don't want to and don't have to watch.

I get the political activism elements involved here. I get the posturing and signaling. This seems to be uniquely confined to media platforms though. e.g. I've never seen a vegan say they're going to stop shopping at a store that sells meat.

i've been thinking lately that it's based on how, at a rarefied enough stratum of society, withdrawing association is highly meaningful because economic and political opportunities flow freely along friendship lines and you wouldn't want some badthinker taking advantage of that
