excuse me sir, but necromancy is banned in the 7 civilized provinceshttps://twitter.com/politicoroger/status/1082450861278838784 …

If it were possible, would you subtract one day off your life and add it to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life for one extra day of good health? If just 10,000 people did this, it would add 27 productive years to her life. pic.twitter.com/RurqFmWZGp

might fuck around and die on the hill of trying to get people to call it thanaturgy when it's not divination

I mean, if you really want to march up that hill why not correct this to Chronoturgy or Animaturgy or something.

enh, shrug, those are fine too but while we're positing counterfactual fungible substances to work, death (subtracting it from RBG and adding it to everybody else) is as good as time or life (subtracting it from everybody else and adding it to RBG)

we need to go deeper. why is divination performed with non-personified death (nekros) but other magic in the same metaphysical area performed with personified death (Thanatos)?

oh, i honestly don't think of thanatos with a capital letter, i was just doing latin/greek agreement like a good multiamorist

I'm endlessly fascinated by the conceptual boundaries in ancient Greek metaphysics and mythology and this one in particular is a good one. Thanatos is specifically a mytho-poetic figure. The child of Darkness and and Night, and the twin of Sleep.

idk i still feel like we get a lot of functional fixedness with divine names like this when people were just calling their god of goofiness "Goofy", like that perkygoth there is called Death which does have other uses, not entirely unlike Θάνατος and θνῄσκω

sure, but it's asymmetrical. Her name might be used as a mundane word (uncapitalized) at times, but nekros would never be used as her name.

nnnnno but Nekros definitely would barring it being "taken", the Endless are frequently called by the local language word for their concept but it's the other direction of asymmetry that's relevant anyway, and as far as that goes i think the ship has sailedpic.twitter.com/M6sj3cKRx6
